If you... Want to knock off pounds quickly but don't love the gym
Go with... A high-protein, low-carb diet Cutting carbs and upping protein in your diet helps you lose weight fast and keeps you fuller longer

If you... Need to slim down for next month's high school reunion
Go with... Cardio In the short term, the StairMaster burns more calories than pumping iron, so you'll lose weight faster

Go with... Weights Adding to your muscle mass takes time, but it will up the number of calories your body burns even when you're not working out

If you... Like to veg out on the couch after quitting time
Go with... An early dinner It's better not to pile on calories when you won't have a chance to burn them off

If you... Are a night owl at the gym or can't find time to eat before 7

If you... Have friends who are healthy eaters or on diets of their own
Go with... Social eating You'll be more mindful of what you eat when you have a supportive audience

If you... Think half a cup of is laughably small serving size
Go with... 3 meals a day, period Cutting out snacks is an easy way to regulate your daily calorie intake, and allows you to have larger meals

If you... Get hunger pangs if you haven't eaten in an hour
Go with... All-day grazing When your body thinks it's starving, it stores calories. Doling them out in five to six small, healthy meals evens out your blood sugar and cranks metabolism

Organges

Juicy and sweet and renowned for its concentration of vitamin C, oranges make the perfect snack and add a special tang to many recipes (see my "Orange for Dinner"). Also, a bonus, having organge juice taken at the same meal more than doubles your iron absorption. Oranges also contain antioxidant, the vitamin A, in the form of beta-carotene.

This wonderful fruit is a great source of iron, potassium and calcium. So, instead of having milk, most of the time, have your glass of orange juice or solid fruit in the morning and late afternoon. This simple fruit has a powerful punch for your working day.

Excuses for Exercise

We all have excuses in NOT doing exercises, even me. We tell and say, "We don't have time... We don't like doing it... Blah...Blah...Blah..." Here are some solutions to leave behind those excuses. Exercise can be fun.

"IT DOESN'T FEEL GOOD"
Solution: When you finish you exercise, you always should do a Cool Down for 5 minutes. This will leave a feeling that exercises was easy and you will more liking to do it again.

"I DON'T HAVE TIME"
Solution: You don't have to do a lot of exercise. A 10 minute walk is better than nothing. Even during commericals on TV, you can get up and mark in place or even side walk with moving you arms up and down (for a total workout) for those 5 or 7 minutes until your TV program comes back on.

"I'M NOT GETTING RESULTS"
Solution: Try activity that works both your upper and lower body at the same time. This will boost your calorie burn without feeling like you are working any harder. (for example - doing squatts and biceps curls.)

"I'VE TRIED IT BEFORE"
Solution: The glass is half full, NOT half empty. Concentrate on the times you did exercise. Focus the positive that will liberate proof that you can succeed.

Cardio vs. Weight-Lifting?

Cardio or Weight-Lifting? Which one is better. Each one has its one benefits, it all depends which one do you need.

Both exercise, together will help you loose weight and loose body fat but you need to do both of them, equally. Its not what you want to here but Cardio and Weigh-Lifting are link to loose the weight. Here are what each one consisted of:

If you want to loose the more of your body fat mass, you should do more Cardio exercise with some little of weight-lifting training. Cardio exercise will burn and sweat the fat off your body and you will get strong with your lungs, heart and muscles. Put in some flexibility exercise for stretching the muscles before you do cardio, so you don't get sore the next day. I always believe the Straight 5 Day Program: the first 3 days of cardio will be hard because you body is not strong at the beginning but if you do it everyday for 5 day straight, you will realize your body will adjust and get stronger and it will get easier. Then after the 5 days you can adjust your schedule and program to exercise for 3-4 days a week. You can buy some dvds of cardio or join a gym. If you can't afford that just walk for 30 minutes a day and then later you can move on into some jogging. Climb the stairs and do some jump and jacks or arm pressing during every stop at each level, great for the legs and the arms.

If you want to gain weight of body mass and build you muscles, Weight-Lifting Training is your thing. Of coarse put in little flexibility and cardio exercise for stretching the muscles before you do lift any weights, so you don't get sore the next day.

Happy Easter Weekend

It's very hard to stay away from chocolate during the holiday of Easter. So, I came across of a recipe for chocolate cake that I would like to share with you all. I got it from some magazine that I don't remember when I was at the doctor's office, waiting room.

domino - The Guide to Living With Style

domino is a magazine that shows new style in fashion for clothes and decor. I know what you are saying, what does this got to do with loosing weight. Well, I'll tell you.

Spring is here and everyone will be doing their spring clean in and out of the houses. And starting a new fresh look on dieting, you should have a new look in and out of you house and clothes. This might sound silly, but if you have a new look of a different style in your home that appeals to your favorite color, texture or your personality, it will make you feel beautiful, free, happy and comfortable in your own atmosphere. A change in your life of things that surrounds you will bring less stress and more harmony.

Little things can make all the difference like putting different color pillows on the couch or put more family photos on the wall. Join the world as it goes GREEN and buy or plant a flower pot. Check out the website and see what you can make a different in your decor in your life.

Spring is HERE!

Get those running shoe on, Spring is here. AUH...warm weather, the sun's hot rays, the blue sky, I'm so excited. The time to get out from the home caves and walk in the wooded trails in the park. To walk outside and breathe the clean, fresh air. Having picnics outside during lunch hour and walk around the building and see the sites. OOO...OOO...Vacation time, taking time for yourself or with a friend or family to breathe from the stressful office. Which reminds me, to start exercise more and get to my goal weight before I go on vacation. (To loose 30 lbs. before mid of June.) I hope you all have a goal before you go on your vacation. If not, make one. It will be a good start for your diet.

Cookie Jar

I remember when I was eight or nine years old and I went to my grandma's house every weekend. I would come in her house, give her a great big hug and kisses and ran to the cookie jar in the kitchen. She would have homemade chocolate chip cookies to store bought. I didn't care what kind of cookies she had, I just remember the chocolate, chewy sugar flakes or the filled vanilla creme cookies. And the best part was I can have as many as I wanted. My grandma, Mary, always gave us what we wanted in sugar. My mom and dad would say, "Only have two" but my grandma would sneak and give us grand kids more. Those were the days.

Today is different. Cookies are bigger in size and bigger in calories. So, taking 3 or more cookies per serving is a large sum of calories and sugar that adds to our bigger hips. For some reason, we still think back in the ages when we were small and young that now, we take twice more than the serving on the label box. Also, through the day, you crave for the flavor of the creme vanilla cookie and you take more than you should. Meaning you just add more calories to you diet.

My solution that I have been working on, instead of cookies in the jar, put store bought bars that are package with a wrapper. There are so many low calorie bars like the Quaker Oatmeal bars (90 Calories) or the HERSHEY'S bars (100 calories). Its more satisfying to open a wrapper and taking a bit into. Maybe, its tricking the brain nerves that you are throwing the wrapper away, its telling you are finished like a meal on a plate.

Another solution is to bake your own Homemade cookies. Instead of white flour, use wheat flour. Instead of all the sugar, use Spenda and half the sugar to the recipe. Instead of egg with yolk, use egg whites only. Substitute ingredients is the best health choice you can make for yourself.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

AUH...BEER! Believe it or not, beer has received good points on health benefits. Studies has shown drinking beer can lower risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and osteoporosis. Also, it contains high levels of an ingredient which allows the deposit of calcium and other minerals into bone tissues.

Just don't go over board, its still not a better choice in dieting. Count the calories on beer before you drink it.

And to give you heads up, when it comes to how you feel the next day, beer is the gentler choice than wine. Resources link.

Spring Ranch Ala-Chicken

Spring Ranch Ala-Chicken
(everyone always have a weird name to their recipes, so I thought I would too)

2 Baked Red Potatoes
2 Skinless Boneless Chicken
1 Bunch of a handle-full of fresh String Green Beans
(your option for more, grab more)
Olive Oil or PAM spray
Sea Salt
1/2 Package of Hidden Valley Ranch Seasons
Pinch of Parsley
Chicken Broth (vary 1/2 to 1/4 cup)
Grated Cheese (optional)

Put water in the small pot on the stove on high/med. flames with a pinch of sea salts. Put your clean string green bean in the pot with a cover lid. Let them cook.

Then, bake your red potatoes in the microwave or you could boil them in water without the skin. When you can tell your potatoes are done by forking the potatoes with a fork. The felt of the fork will be soft but firm in the potato that you can put the fork right through it.

While they are cooking, you can start by cutting up the clean chicken into small bites. (Make sure you clean you chicken with washing under cold water. To get rid of the extra chicken juice off.) Then heat your big frying pan (deep pan is better) on the stove and put a little bit of olive oil or PAM spray in the pan and heat up. Cook your chicken in the pan until done. While cooking the chicken, the potatoes should be done, slice the potatoes into small bites and put them in a bowl to put a side. CHECK spring beans with a fork to see if done, if so strain the beans and put into the bowl.

When the chicken is done, put your potatoes and spring bean in then pan - toss/mix around the food. Pour in some chicken broth (about 1/2 to 1/4 cup) into the pan and 1/2 pack of your Ranch seasons and pinch of parsley and sea salts (salt is optional - I always back off the salt until I taste it).

Serve on a plate and you could put on a sprinkle of grated cheese. ENJOY!

Lost 2 lbs.

I lost 2 lbs. Not the greatest but not a gain. I didn't try my best these 2 weeks, I mostly did my own thing, a few deserts here and there and I didn't worry about the calorie intake.

They, meaning trainers and physical physicians, says the first 1 week of dieting, you should have a goal set in your mind. Like for an example, loose 15 lbs. in one month or fit in those old jeans that you had for the longest time. Setting this goal will give you an reminder on why you are doing dieting in the first place and to keep on doing it. Right now, write you goal on a piece of paper and put it on the ice box or in your car. Place it somewhere that you will see it everyday and it will keep on reminding you and won't let you grab those donuts in the morning or go out for a fast restaurant cheese burger.

My goal is to loose 30 lbs. before my trip to Maine in June. To get fit to walking on the rough trails in the Bar Harbor, National Park. Also, to keep up with my Mom, which I'm taking on the trip, at all the Portland shopping stores. I have 3 more months to go and have set my goal paper on my door, so I can see it before I go out in the morning and when I get home at night. I also, have it at my work space so I don't get a candy bar from the vending machine.

"I know I can do this and so can you, too."

Breath in the Oxygen

Try to get interest into plant life. Plants are our best air purifiers. They produce oxygen and eliminate volatile organic compounds. Most effective are indoor plant such as palms, English ivy, ficuses and peace lilies. Stay away from flower plants, they are fine to smell sweet perfumes but will give you a sneeze or two. Beside of plant life giving us oxygen, it also gives us energy from the sun light to heal our souls and bodies.

However, plants can't produce glucose, carbohydrates and oxygen without light. To get through the night, most plants reverse the process of photosynthesis and breathe, like you and I, by burning carbohydrates and oxygen while producing carbon dioxide and water. So surround yourself with plants during the day, your work place or in the living room or kitchen. But remove them from your bedroom at night when you sleep.

We can learn form plants by standing under the sun light and bathing the energy from it. The sun light rays warms our bodies and achy bones to produce a energy sensation. Go under the sun, early morning and late in the day, to avoid the harmful UV rays and take in the warmth bright energy that most of us miss during these winter days.

I read this article on the website that I thought it was interesting and thought you might want to know ex-specially now what has been going on with our earth, today. It takes one person to breathe in about 53,000 ML of oxygen in one hour. On an average plant has 30 leaves, each leaf is 5 L of oxygen equal to (30x5) 150 ML/plant/hour. So, an average person needs 53,000 ML of oxygen in an hour. Meaning it take 300 to 400 plants to produce enough oxygen to keep ONE person alive in an hour.

Please, plant seed for all of you and your family to live a happier life.

Power Nap

Loosing 1 hour from day light saving time on Sunday, a 20 minute nap in the afternoon will refresh your mind and body. Studies have show by taking a 20 minute sa-nesta in the afternoon, will improve your your performance, memory and other cognitive skills. So, during your lunch hour at work or at home, take a 20 minute snooze.

Mushrooms

Protein, anybody? Mushrooms contain more protein than any other vegetables. They are very low in calories and they take in of potassium, vitamin E and phosphorus. Also, with sources of up-to-date research, one field or 3 small mushrooms contains enough of B12 for your day.

When buying or mushrooms, you are looking for firm, plump and clean ones. Then preparing for you dish, wipe your mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove any dirt by hand. Putting them under pressure water will plunder their dainty skin. The best way to store loose mushrooms is to keep them in the refrigerator either placed in a loosely closed paper bag, wrapped in a damp cloth or laid out in a glass dish that is covered with a moist cloth.

So, slice some mushroom and put them in your tomato sauce, egg omelet or make some gravy for your chicken or steak.

Get Back on the Horse

I have been very lazy and stress out for the past several weeks. Well, I thought it better than never to start exercising again. Everyday, I will do 15 minutes on my Air Walker (its like a treadmill). I thought, I'll do the Core Secrets Ball training every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Biggest Loser DVD will be on every Tuesday and Thursday. And finally, the Yoga or the Tai Chi DVD on Saturday. Sunday is god day, a day off to relax.

Not a Good Day

I'm not doing so good on my diet, once again. I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I just want bad food most of the time. I guess I am board of the lettuce, turkey, fruit and all other healthy foods that are out there that I'm eating. I want a juicy greasy hamburger from Wendy's or regular ice cream with all the chocolate chips and doughy cookie taste in it, along the sweet chocolate fudge.

It could be the weather, we have been having with the sun, then the rain cold days and then the cold wet snow. It could the stress days from work. Working late nights and the long hours are draining me dry. I need a change in my life. To get out of the daily routine. I didn't get out this weekend that I wanted to, I didn't have time. I'm board and I'm putting food as a substitute as a change. I know better not to but I'm begging for a change in my life.

If this happens to you, Get Out. Sometimes you don't realize it that you are doing it. I didn't know until I paused and thought about it. I was substituting food as a change of my routine in my life. You need to get out and do something new or old, like go to the movies or eat out to some NEW restaurant (choose wisely on foods). Go the any attractions in your city, like the museums, the national parks, lake or beach, or even the new malls that which you want to see. If you have time and have vacation days or sick days, play hookie from work. Remember those days you played hookie from school, if you didn't, its time to do it now or again. Re-live your past, do something different. Remember the movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off , watch and learn, but of coarse you don't have to fool your parent, you just have to fool you boss and yourself. Re-live and enjoy it.

Sunny Day

I don't know what the weather is in your neck of the woods, but here in Pittsburgh, PA, its sunny and 45 degrees. AHHH, the yellow bright sun, it just wants you to take a moment and soak the ray of warmth into your face and body. I sure miss the sun from this long icy storm snow days that we have been having. I hope you all get a chance to enjoy the sun heat. You should just take a moment, go outside, close your eyes and face the sun. Let the sun's heat ray just hit your face for a minute and feel the warmth that we all have been missing. It will sure brighten your day.

Pears

Constipated? Instead of drinking those nasty liquids or taking pills, Eat a Pear.

Vitamin C and some Vitamin A and E, along with potassium, helps for digestion to do good for you body which each pear has. They contain NO fat and NO sodium but do have fruit sugar which it is easily converts into usable energy.

Also, you see a lot of puree pears in baby food...why you ask? Because Pears is a least likely to cause any type of allergic reaction. So, this 100 calorie, sugar-free, no fat fruit is safe to eat but be warn, not to have too many pears in a day 'causes diarrhea.
